Impact of EU emissions regulations on replacement engine operations.
2024-11-28
The first emissions regulation came into force through EU Directive 97/68/EC and level I of this directive came into force in 1999. In this context, level 0 refers to the time before emission restrictions came into force.
In the power class 130kW – 560kW, we may not deliver EU level 1 or lower replacement motors without deposit return after December 31, 2021.
In the power class 75kW – 130kW, we may not deliver EU level 1 or lower replacement motors without deposit return after December 31, 2022.
In the power class 37kW – 75kW, we may not deliver EU level 1 or lower replacement motors without deposit return after December 31, 2023.
As Tier 1 and lower Xchange engines cannot be supplied directly to the customer within the EU, their availability as replacement engines ceases according to the schedules above. However, your engine can still be factory rebuilt. That is, in practice, the old engine is first delivered to the factory, after which it is refurbished into a factory-repaired engine, the scope of delivery of which corresponds to a newly manufactured engine with warranty and performance.
Verification of the emission class from the nameplate:
- Engines with an EU approval number (marked in the nameplate example with a green circle) and CODE in the CE field do not require any further action, as they meet the EU Stage II standard.
- Engines that do not have an EU type approval number on the nameplate, but have “CODE” after “MODEL” (marked with a red circle in the nameplate example), must be checked. With the help of these two fields: “Engine type” and “Engine code” it is possible to determine the emission class for each DEUTZ engine.
- Engines without an EU type approval number in the “CODE” field belong to engines with 0 exhaust level.
- Since the production of replacement engines is based on the emission level, any request for a replacement engine must include the DEUTZ engine serial number “SER NO” or “MOT NO”, the engine model designation “MODEL” and the engine type code “CODE”. Alternatively, a photo of the nameplate will also work.
Advantages of factory renovation:
- Refurbished Tier 1 and lower emission class engines are covered by the same warranty as Xchange replacement engines.
- The manufacturing methods and bench testing process are similar to the Xchange replacement engine.
- When the old engine arrives at the replacement engine factory in Ulm, it is immediately placed in its own line for a faster delivery time.
More useful information on EU level 1 or lower DEUTZ engines:
- As of 01.2019, the country of delivery of the engine must be specified in all offers and orders.
- It must be ensured that an engine of EU level 1 or lower is delivered to DEUTZ with a nameplate.
- The “delivery without return engine” option offered for Xchange engines cannot be used for EU emission level 1 or lower engines.
- Eu emission level 1 or lower engines cannot be ordered to stock.
